Welcome to all our new and returning Swimmers and Families to the 2021 Blue Wave summer swim season at Rivercrest!!
We are awaiting further guidance from the New Jersey Swimming and Diving Conference as to what the summer swim season will look like. Obviously, we are hoping to be able to have in-person meets, but that decision will be made by the league based on the State guidance on outdoor gatherings and sports events!
I am pleased to announce that Jeff Donovin, former Blue Wave swimmer and coach, will be returning as our head coach for the 2021 summer season! Jeff has many years’ experience as a club, high school, and summer league swimmer as well as coach and will be a valuable asset to the team. The format of the season will be a part of the decision as to what the rest of our coaching staff looks like. Therefore, if anyone is interested in being considered for the assistant coaching position, please have them contact me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If the league opts for in-person meets we will hire a full-time assistant coach. If we will be doing virtual meets, we may choose to have one or more part-time and/or volunteer assistant coaches. Stay tuned.
New and returning swimmers should send in your registration form ASAP. I will hold all checks until we are sure there will be a season.
Some important upcoming dates and information to keep in mind:
~Swimsuit try-on day with Ultimate Swim Shop will be scheduled in late May/early June as soon as we have a decision from the league on the season’s format. If we need team suits, we will again use the TYR Miramar (blue) for this year (same as 2019).
~Parent meeting will immediately follow the swimsuit try-on when scheduled. All new and returning parents are requested to attend.
~Picture day will be scheduled as soon as we have a decision from the league on the season’s format. As always we will have individual photos followed by the team group photo. As always, we will try to schedule pictures on the same Saturday morning as a home meet if possible.
~The Parent Work Schedule will be posted shortly after the parent meeting. Again, what we can do regarding selling concessions, having fans at meets, etc. will be determined by the league and State guidance After the schedule is made if you need to make a change please reach out to the other parents to make a switch. We will try and accommodate your work preference requests, but please keep in mind that given the amount of swimmers and parents, or lack thereof, this may not always be possible.
Also note most families will be assigned for timing or head timer at least once. This is an area where we need the most coverage.
~Officials are always needed and welcome. This is a job that does require training but you will have a front row seat to all the action. As soon as the league schedules training classes I will forward that information. If you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible. All current NJSDC officials will likely have to attend training again since it is typically valid for 2-years and we lost last year. Again, I am hoping for clarification from the league on this. Anyone with a current valid Y officials’ certification is exempt provided you send me a copy of your Y cert.
Looking forward to a great season!
